Over the past week or so I’ve been playing around with a few ideas of some small design and cosmetic changes on ryanboswell.com. For now I’ve just settled on consolidating the two sidebar columns into one big column that’s about 75% as wide as the two separate, as well as widening the main content column to fill in that other 25%. I’ve also gotten rid of the individual Flickr and Twitter update sections in lieu of trying to put together a consolidated Action Stream of everything. Unfortunately I’ve run into a few problems with that.
First of all, I’m currently working with Action Streams 1.0 by Mark Paschal. I had played with this a while ago, but never really got into it. But right now I’m diving back in trying to get it to work with my blog and feeds. The problem I’m running into is that Action Streams isn’t populating the content for each ‘event’. It properly recognizes each post that is made and the dates are correct, there’s just no content in them. For example, a Twitter entry says Ryan tweeted, “”. But there’s nothing in the quotes where the tweet should actually go.
I’m going to be looking into how to fix that problem because I really want to be able to run my action stream in house. But since it’s not working right now I’m looking to FriendFeed to run it at least temporarily, although after a little while of working with it, I kinda like that FriendFeed makes it really easy to do, it works, and allows comments (something Action Streams doesn’t do).
