Your accidental solution probably has something to do with getting the Spotlight index to update and recognize the app is there and that you should be able to update it. Not sure exactly, but it sounds like it had the same effect as resetting the Spotlight index for the entire drive.

Well, 'God;, I have the same problem and no, my HD isn't private. And I have only one account. I have tried disk utility, restarting, signing in and out 12 times... nothing.

Funny enough, in the end I randomly put the app in question (aperture in my case) into a folder so App Store would hopefully not find it and let me re-download it.... guess what, app store did find it anyhow, and now i can suddenly update? WTF?

I've been reading about these "signs" ever since they made their announcement back in March. I'm really pessimistic about us getting anything tied to a Google Profile. Remember, they promised us Buzz early 2010 and that quietly faded away. I really think this will do the same.

I just wish Google would announce SOMETHING even if it's "Sorry, we're not going to offer it after all. At least then we'd know."

My problem is even more an issue. When I set up my daughters iPod touch two years ago, I had to use one of my email addresses as an ID. Since I used my personal account for my eldest daughter a year earlier I used my work email.
Two years later after two job changes in this wonderful economy, I needed to log into my daughters apple ID I since forgot my password. The online verification process only gave me the option to verify my birth date and it was rejected. Of course email verification is out of the question.
I've since sent a request to apple to help....I'll let you know there response.

DUDE,

Open System Preferences.
Click on the Spotlight preference pane.
Click on the Privacy tab.
Add your startup volume to the list to "Prevent Spotlight from searching these locations:".
Remove your startup volume from the list.
Allow Spotlight to reindex your startup volume.
Open the App Store.

All of your updates will now properly populate under the Updates tab.

I HATH SPOKEN AND IT SHALL BE SO!!

Comment on Freelancing as a Student by Ryan Boswell

@fiverr: Effective time management is hard to do, no matter what you're doing. The best thing I can say is to get into the habit of using a calendar/scheduling system (I use Google Calendar, since I can access it anywhere) and plan out set blocks of time to spend on various things. For example, my first priority is classes, so I put in all of my class times, then I add in a few other important events, and finally I look at my average weekly schedule and plan out set times that I do freelance work. If I'm usually available on Tuesday afternoons from 2-5, then I plan all or most of that for work.

The next step is to follow your calendar as closely as you possibly can. It is not easy to do, especially if you are used to just winging it through the day, but it's a habit that is well worth the effort to start. Of course, you do have to take into consideration special circumstances (for example, I have a group project to work on, so I may need to take time out of my 'work' schedule to do that), and realize that life can get in the way. That's perfectly ok, just make sure that you're not taking off work for small things. Treat freelancing as you would a regular day job, if a normal boss wouldn't allow you to take time off for it, than reconsider doing so.

I can only imagine that with two kids, these unexpected surprises will happen often. For you, it's important to make sure you have time to work, but it's also important to be there for your kids. So it would be worthwhile to maybe schedule family time, and let your kids know that if you're working they shouldn't disturb you unless it's important. Working at home is a lot easier when you have the support and understanding of the people you live with to help you stay focused.

Hi, I think you have a point. But I was curious on how you were able to manage your time effectively, especially with freelancing altogether. I am a mom with two kids and working at home. Boy,was it very difficult to keep up with the schedule.
